First Time Winners Night at Winchester
With most of the Eastern racetracks raining out the return of IMCA RaceSaver sprint cars to Winchester brought a good field of sprinters to the Virginia oval with first time winners of both races. Heats kicked off the night with Donnie Hendershot, AJ Barton, Jarrett Rosencrance and Dave Grube taking wins. The feature lined up with Zach Rhodes and Fred Arnold on the front row. Rhodes had the best line at the start with Arnold dropping in for second right away as the rest of the field tried to get their own line working to move forward. Rhodes liked the bottom and stayed glued to it with Arnold and Logan Jones fighting over second with the other positions changing every lap. Jones made his way to second and Arnold fell to third with Donnie Hendershot and now fifth Dave Grube trying to run them down. Jones was all over Rhodes for the top spot but close to the end Rhodes built a little of a gap and held it as he flashed under a waving checkered flag for his first win. At the line it was Zach Rhodes, Logan Jones, Fred Arnold, Donnie Hendershot, Dave Grube, Ken Duke, Johnny Scarborough, Kenny Heffner, Dale Schweikart, Reed Thompson, Brad Mellott, Jerald Harris, Matt Kline, Branstin Shue, Daren Bolac, Jarrett Rosencrance, Alyssa Rowe, Erin Statler, Dylan Shatzer, Frank Rushnock, Ryan Lynn, Croix Beasom, AJ Barton, Chris Humblet. A special Non-Qualifiers feature lined up next with Austin Greenland and Matthew Leach pacing the field to green and at the wave of the green the low line showed to be the best again and Greenland stayed right with it holding off Jay Fry and Drew Young for his first win also. At the stripe it was Austin Greenland, Jay Fry, Drew Young, Matthew Leach, Ben Miklos, Chris Ware, French Grimes, John Smith, Aaron Leach, Joe Leavell and Caleb Harris. Next Week the Virginia Sprint Series is off before heading to the coast and Dixieland Speedway in Elizabeth City, NC. for the first Fast Friday race of the year on Friday night May 12th.
