Jack Dover wins Friday Sept 2nd’s Qualifier Feature at Sprint Nationals!

Night #1 of the 2016 Racesaver IMCA Sprint Nationals started under sunny skies and ended up being run under cool temperatures that were great for generating horsepower. With 117 sprinters in the house and a big crowd in the stands, the action was fantastic on a VERY fast track throughout the 15 sprint heats, 7 preliminary features and an A Feature plus 4 heats for the Midwest Lightning sprints, a B and A Feature and then topped off with 4 qualifying heats for Saturday’s Jake Ita Race of Champions.

Although there were 7 incidents in the sprint heats none were serious and all of the drivers were relatively unhurt.

Jack Dover led lap #1 of the Racesaver IMCA Sprint main event in his #84 with Andy Shouse in the 27, Luke Cranston’s 20C and the 20 of Chad Wilson rounding out the top 4. Dover pulled away to a straightaway lead by lap 5. Lap 8 saw Shon Pointer move the 20P into fourth. 2 laps later Wilson moved up to second, John Carney II jumped up to the third spot and Shouse fell back to fourth. Dover started encountering heavy traffic shortly after that, allowing his pursuers to close in on him. Dover ran high, ran low and wherever he had to in order to slice and dice around the lapped cars. With 9 laps left Carney II advanced to second and moved in on Dover. In 3 laps Carney had moved to Dover’s push bumper, and try as he may he could never complete the pass. The final top 4 were Dover, Carney II, Wilson and Pointer.

“I got a really good jump at the start from fourth. Actually, it was an AWESOME jump! We setup for a slick track, and after Roger farmed the track it worked in our favor. I want to send Chris Roseland a huge thanks for letting me drive this car. Also Rick, Steve, Dad, Colton and Max. Let the fans know how much we appreciate them coming out. I can’t wait for the Race of Champions and getting to start on the pole Sunday. Hopefully we can bring home the win” stated Dover. Dover’s sponsors include Backland Plumbing and Omaha WinWater Company.

The Midwest Lightning Sprint A’s initial circuit was led by Presley Truedson’s 2K followed by Devin Feger’s 40, Brandon Johnson’s 8 and Alex Truscinski in the 10. Feger grabbed the lead on lap 2, but gave it back to Truedson the next time around as Ty Tilton moved the 42 into fourth. Lap 7 saw a 3 car pile-up in turn 2 as Austin Archdale’s 2X, the 1 of Rick Hench and Jim Kennedy’s 14 stopped, bringing out a red flag. Tilton moved up to third with 10 to go and 3 laps later Justin Lewis put the 77 into fourth. There were 3 laps left when Kobe Allison looped the 23S in turn 4. Johnson jumped all the way up to third on the restart, making the top 4 Truedson, Feger, Johnson and Lewis. Truedson could not be located for an interview.

Saturday sees the second night of sprint car qualifying for Sunday night’s big show plus a full show for the Midwest Lightning Sprints and the NAPA IMCA Sport Modifieds plus the Jake Ita Race of Champions.

Front gates open at 5, hot laps start at 5:30 and racing kicks off at 6:30. Adult front gate admission is $12, youths 6-12 are just $5 and children 5 and under are free. There will be a pit party following the racing with live music by V-Twin.

Pits open at 4 PM with pit admission being $25.
